World Cultures
This course begins with an introductory unit that will include the elements of culture, cultural universal norms, the impact of culture, and the use of the Five Themes of Geography. These elements will be applied to the exploration of the history, culture, and geography of Africa, Southern Asia, Eastern Asia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. A basic comparison of major world religions and the impact of those religions will be examined to complete the study of each region.

World Cultures Daily Activities
2/25/16: Introduction to South Asian geography. Lecture notes in class on the regions found in South Asia. Maps due tomorrow! 2/26/16: Correct South Asia maps in class. Map quiz Monday! Students will read about and watch videos regarding the monsoons that South Asia experiences. 2/29/16: South Asia map quiz and corrections. Students will complete a reading on the early South Asian civilizations. Guided reading worksheet due tomorrow. 3/1/16: Class discussion on the people of South Asia and what having over 700 languages can mean for a country. Correct and review Guided Reading 7.3 in class. 3/2/16: Discuss Aryan culture and define various vocabulary associated with the topic. Analyze and compare the Aryan varna and caste system with our own social classes. Students will complete a poem about the social classes in the United States. 3/3/16: Students will turn in their social classes poems. Students will watch a video that introduces the religion of Hinduism. 3/4/16: All classes will be attending a career fair in Brainerd. 3/7/16: Students will research about Hinduism using a guided internet assignment. |
