The Holocaust

This course is designed to show the history of Antisemitism throughout Europe and how this led to what is now known as the Holocaust during the 1930s and early 1940s. 

Topics will include:
  • The conditions that allowed the Nazi party to rise to power.
  • The development of the Nazi party.
  • Initial persecution of groups targeted by the Nazis during the period.
  • Methods of persecution.
  • Analysis of the timeline and intensity of persecution.
  • The end of the Holocaust and post-Holocaust action.
  • Research and analysis of other genocides of the past century.
  • If time allows we will examine several survivor stories.
  • We will also read Trapped in Hitler’s Hell by Anita Dittman as part of this course.

Holocaust 1 and 5:
1/4/16: Students will read through an online article about the aftermath of the Holocaust and answer questions relating to the reading.

1/5/16: Students will complete the online reading and we will discuss the key concepts from the reading.

1/6/16: We will discuss the legal proceedings relating to the punishment of perpetrators from the Holocaust.  Students will watch a documentary on the Nuremberg Trials.

1/7/16: Lecture on Holocaust deniers and revisionists.

1/8/16: Students will examine readings relating to rising anti-Semitism in Europe today.

​1/11/16-1/18/16: Students will watch the film Schindler's List.
